The May Hill Hub Wins National Award
We are proud to announce that The May Hill Hub has won Plunkett’s Rural Community Business Awards in the Rural Vision Technology category.
Representatives from the Hub travelled to the awards in London and were delighted to be crowned the winners and to be presented with the award by Dame Prue Leith DBE, who told Hub representative Jane Foot as she accepted it:
“It’s wonderful what you do – keep at it!”
The judges were impressed by the Hub’s stylish website, ordering system and how they have used technology to create a village shop vibe even when they have no premises of their own.
“It was amazing to hear about all of the incredible community businesses in villages right across the country and for the success of the Hub to be validated by this award” commented founder member of the Hub Caroline Pascoe.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank the local businesses we support at the Hub for trading with us, our loyal customers and especially our volunteers who are the heart of the operation.
This is award is shared with everyone who has helped in whatever capacity to make the May Hill Hub work - volunteers, suppliers and customers; special mention, though, to Chris Kenwright (one of the original Hub committee members) who, at one of the early meetings, mentioned “I could maybe have a go at creating a click and collect website …”. Chris went on to build not only the website, but also an intricate infrastructure which automates orders to suppliers, then in turn enables those customer orders to be accessed by the volunteers on a Friday. This award is welcome recognition for all his ongoing hard work.
